Opening Night - East Kilbride Art Centre (10 October 2013)

This year's Images of Research Exhibition went to East Kilbride Art Centre for the third leg of the tour.  The Images Team worked closely with Keith Donnelly (South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture) to hold an Opening Night event for entrants, members of staff from the University, members of University Court and guests from local education authorities.  

Visitors enjoyed a drinks reception at the venue with opening remarks from Gerry Campbell, General Manager, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and Professor Tim Bedford, Associate Deputy Principal, Knowledge Exchange and Research Enhancement.  A selection of photographs from the event are shown below, click on an image for more information.

<p class=int>The introductory panel welcomes visitors to the gallery and explains the aims of the competition and exhibition.  The venue hosted the display from 6 October to 3 November 2013, with the opening night took place on 10 October.</p>

<p class=int>The Art Centre offered us space for the entire collection, one of the only venues that could display all 48 images!</p>

<p class=int>2013 Competition Winner Elisabeth Fraczek attended the event and was happy to chat to visitors about her image. </p>

<span class=heading><b>Glasgow’s Public Internet Access</b></span><br /><p class=int> </p>
<p class=int>Entrant to the Society Category, Gillian Anderson, a Research Fellow from the Department of Management Science attended the event.  She talked to visitors about her research and how she captured the subject in an image and text.  </p>

<span class=heading><b>For Pastures Green</b></span><br /><p class=int> </p>
<p class=int>Ann Ndiuini, PhD student from the Department of Human Resource Management attended the opening event with her family.  Her entry to the Society category was popular with the competition judges.  </p>

<p class=int>Andre Sonnet, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, talks about his entry to the Technology Category.</p>

<span class=heading><b>Head of Water Flea</b></span><br /><p class=int> </p>
<p class=int>Category Winner (Society) Rumelo Amor, a PhD student from the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, worked with the staff from the Art Centre to install the microscope featured in his image.  During the month-long exhibition, visitors could see for themselves fascinating images through the microscope.</p>

<span class=heading><b>Pushing Boundaries on a Small Scale</b></span><br /><p class=int> </p>
<p class=int>The winning image from the Technology Category and Overall Winner from the public vote, was submitted by Elisabeth Fraczek, a PhD Student from the Institute of Photonics.  She’s photographed at the event with Professor Tim Bedford. </p>
